Vecuronium bromide is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent used alongside general anesthesia to facilitate endotracheal intubation and provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgeries or mechanical ventilation. Administered strictly via intravenous injection by healthcare professionals, its effects typically peak in 3 to 4 minutes and last for 20 to 30 minutes.

Appearance: White or almost white crystals or crystalline powder.
Assay: 99% minimum.
Melting Point: 227C to 229C literature. 235C is also cited.
Solubility: Slightly soluble in water, freely soluble in methylene chloride, sparingly soluble in acetonitrile and in anhydrous ethanol.
Storage: In an airtight container, protected from light and moisture. Heat Sensitive. Short term storage at room temperature is ok. Frozen storage is preferred.

IDENTIFICATION
A. Infrared Absorption: Meets the requirements
B. The retention time of the major peak of the Sample solution corresponds to that of the Standard solution, as obtained in the Assay.
Organic Impurities: To pass the test by chromatography.
Optical Rotation, Specific Rotation: Sample solution: 10 mg/mL, in dehydrated alcohol. Acceptance criteria: −16° to −20° at 20C.
Bacterial Endotoxins: NMT 10 USP Endotoxin Units/mg of vecuronium bromide.
Loss on Drying: ;Dry a sample at 105° for 2 h: it loses NMT 2.5% of its weight.
Packaging and Storage: Preserve in tight containers, and store at room temperature.

TESTS
Solution S: Dissolve 0.500 g in a 5.15 g/L solution of hydrochloric acid and dilute to 50.0 mL with the same solution.
Appearance of solution: Solution S is clear and not more intensely coloured than reference solution.
Specific optical rotation: + 30.5 to + 35.0 (anhydrous substance), determined on solution S.
Impurity B: To pass the test by Thin-layer chromatography.
Related substances: To pass the test by Liquid chromatography.
Water: Maximum 4.0 per cent, determined on 0.300 g.
Sulfated ash: Maximum 0.1 per cent, determined on 1.0 g.
